Fair Trade of Gold and Silver

SUMMARY: Do not increase one part over another part when selling gold or silver.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abu Said al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Do not sell gold for gold except like for like and do not increase one part over another part. Do not sell silver for silver, except like for like and do not increase one part over another part. Do not sell some of it which is not there for some of it which is".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not increase one part over another part when selling gold or silver; sell like for like; practice fairness in business transactions; practice honesty and integrity when conducting business transactions.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about fair trade practices when it comes to buying and selling gold and silver. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that we should not take advantage of others by increasing the price of one item over the other. We should only sell like for like; meaning if someone wants to buy a certain amount of gold with silver, then they should be given an equal amount in return. This hadith teaches us to be fair in our dealings with others and not take advantage of them in any way. It also encourages us to practice honesty and integrity when conducting business transactions so that everyone involved can benefit from it equally.
