Idda of a Slave-Girl After Husband's Death

SUMMARY: The idda (waiting period) of a slave-girl when her husband dies is two months and five days.

Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Said ibn al-Musayyab and Sulayman ibn Yasar said, "The idda of a slave-girl when her husband dies is two months and five days".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect Islamic laws
EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith narrated by Yahya from Malik, Said ibn al-Musayyab and Sulayman ibn Yasar, the waiting period for a freedwoman after her deceased husband is two months and five days. This waiting period is known as ‘idda’ in Arabic. During this time, she must remain in her home without remarrying or leaving it until the end of the prescribed time. This hadith teaches us that we should respect Islamic laws even if they are difficult to follow at times. We should also be mindful of our actions so that we do not break any laws set by Allah SWT.
