Remarriage Advice for Widows

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a widow to remarry if she wished.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn 'Urwa from his father that al-Miswar ibn Makhrama told him that Subaya al-Aslamiya gave birth a few nights after the death of her husband. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to her, "You are free to marry, so marry whomever you wish".

The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's advice to a widow named Subaya al-Aslamiya who had recently lost her husband. He told her that she was free to marry whomever she wished and that it was up to her discretion. This hadith teaches us the importance of giving women freedom in their decisions and respecting their autonomy in matters of marriage. It also shows us how compassionate the Prophet Muhammad was towards widows and how he wanted them to have a chance at happiness again after losing their husbands. Furthermore, this hadith encourages people not to judge or criticize those who choose remarriage after being widowed as it is ultimately up to them what they decide for themselves.
