Honoring the Pledge of Allegiance

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed to Allah to honor the Ansar and the Emigrants for their pledge of allegiance to him for Jihad.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: On the day of the battle of the Trench (ie Ghazwat-ul-Khandaq) the Ansar used to say, "We are those who have given the pledge of allegiance to Muhammad for Jihad (ie holy fighting) as long as we live". The Prophet , replied to them, "O Allah! There is no life except the life of the Hereafter; so please honor the Ansar and the Emigrants".
حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ، سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ كَانَتِ الأَنْصَارُ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ تَقُولُ نَحْنُ الَّذِينَ بَايَعُوا مُحَمَّدَا عَلَى الْجِهَادِ مَا حَيِينَا أَبَدَا فَأَجَابَهُمُ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ عَيْشَ إِلاَّ عَيْشُ الآخِرَهْ فَأَكْرِمِ الأَنْصَارَ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about honoring those who have pledged allegiance to Allah and His Messenger for jihad. On the day of battle of Trench or Ghazwat-ul-Khandaq when Ansar said that they are ready to fight in jihad as long as they live. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed to Allah that He should honor them for their commitment and dedication towards Him. He also reminded them that life is not only limited on this earth but there is a life after death which will be much better than this one so they should keep striving hard in order to get rewarded by Allah in hereafter. This hadith teaches us about loyalty towards our religion and dedication towards our duties which will be rewarded by Allah in afterlife if we do it with sincerity and faithfulness. It also teaches us about importance of hereafter over worldly life which should be kept in mind while doing any good deed or worshiping Allah Almighty.
