Marriage After Divorce

SUMMARY: A man who has four wives and divorces one of them irrevocably can marry again without waiting for the completion of her idda.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that al-Qasim ibn Muhammad and Urwa ibn az-Zubayr said that a man who had four wives and then divorced one of them irrevocably, could marry straightaway if he wished, and he did not have to wait for the completion of her idda.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful when making decisions about marriage as it is an important commitment in life . Respect women's rights after divorce .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that a man who has four wives and divorces one of them irrevocably can marry again without having to wait for the completion of her period of 'iddah. 'Iddah is a period in which a divorced woman must remain unmarried before she can remarry. The hadith teaches us that if a man has multiple wives and divorces one of them irrevocably then he does not have to wait for the completion of her 'iddah before marrying someone else. This shows us that Islam allows men to remarry after divorce but also encourages people to be mindful when making decisions about marriage as it is an important commitment in life.
