Praying for Protection from Opponents

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab prayed to Allah to not be slain by a man who has only prayed one prostration.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that Umar ibn al-Khattab used to say, "O Allah! Do not let me be slain by the hand of a man who has prayed a single prostration to You with which he will dispute with me before You on the Day of Rising!"

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray for protection from opponents; Respect your enemies; Strive towards good deeds; Remember accountability on the Day of Rising

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer and protection. Umar ibn al-Khattab was a companion of Prophet Muhammad and he used to pray to Allah for protection from his opponents. He asked Allah not to let him be slain by someone who has only prayed one prostration in their lifetime. This shows us that even if someone is our opponent or enemy, we should still respect them and pray for their well being as well as our own. We should also remember that on the Day of Rising we will all stand before Allah and answer for our deeds so it is important that we strive to do good deeds in this life so that we can be successful on the Day of Judgment.
