Compensation for Killing Locusts in Ihram

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab advised a man to give a handful of food as compensation for killing locusts while in ihram.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that a man came to Umar ibn al-Khattab and said, "Amir al-muminin, I killed some locusts with my whip when I was in ihram," and Umar said to him, "Give a handful of food".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of compensating for any wrongdoings that may have been done unintentionally. In this case, a man was travelling in the state of ihram and accidentally killed some locusts with his whip. Umar ibn al-Khattab advised him to give a handful of food as compensation for his mistake. This teaches us that we should always strive to make up for our mistakes and wrongdoings by doing something good or giving charity as recompense. It also shows us the importance of being mindful and careful when performing acts that are considered haram or forbidden during certain times such as when one is in the state of ihram during Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage.
