Praying Two Rakahs with Travellers

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab prayed two rakahs with people when he arrived in Makka and Mina, but only said something to them when he was in Makka.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Said ibn al- Musayyab that Umar ibn al-Khattab prayed two rakahs with everybody when he arrived in Makka. Then, when he had finished, he said, "People of Makka, complete your prayer, because we are a group of travellers". Later, Umar ibn al-Khattab prayed two rakahs with them at Mina, but we have not heard that he said anything to them on that occasion.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray together as a group/community , Respect others , Be kind towards strangers/visitors .

EXPLANATIONS:
When Umar ibn al-Khattab arrived in Makka, he prayed two rakahs with the people there. After finishing his prayer, he asked the people of Makka to complete their prayer as they were a group of travellers. Later on, when Umar was at Mina, he again prayed two rakahs with them but did not say anything this time. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims to pray together and also that we should be mindful of those who are travelling and offer our help if needed. It also shows us the importance of respecting others and being kind towards them even if they are strangers or visitors in our community.
