Hair Styling Prohibited in Islam

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to braid, plait or mat one's hair.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Said ibn al-Musayyab that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "Anyone who has braided his hair, or plaited it or matted it must shave his head".

This hadith teaches us that we should follow the teachings of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ in all aspects of our lives, even when it comes to something as seemingly insignificant as styling our hair.
