Age of Sacrificial Animals

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the age of sacrificial animals.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar used to say, about sacrificial animals, "Six-year-old camels, three- year-old cows and sheep, or older than these".
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي الضَّحَايَا وَالْبُدْنِ الثَّنِيُّ فَمَا فَوْقَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the age of sacrificial animals which is an important part of Islamic rituals. According to this hadith, six year old camels, three year old cows and sheep or older than these are suitable for sacrifice. This shows that Islam has a great respect for animals and it also teaches us to be kind towards them by not sacrificing young ones. It also teaches us to be generous in our worship as we should offer the best quality animal for sacrifice even if it costs more money. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to take care of our livestock so that they can reach their full potential before being sacrificed in the name of Allah Almighty.
