Taking Leave of the House

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab refused to let someone pass a certain valley until they had taken leave of the House.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab refused to let one man who had not taken leave of the House pass adh-Dhahran, (a valley eighteen miles from Makka) until he had taken leave of it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take leave when departing from places that are considered sacred or holy in Islam
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of taking leave of the House. Umar ibn al-Khattab was a companion of Prophet Muhammad and he refused to let one man who had not taken leave of the House pass adh-Dhahran, which is a valley eighteen miles from Makka. This shows that it is important for Muslims to take leave when departing from places that are considered sacred or holy in Islam. It also teaches us that we should respect such places and show reverence when visiting them. Taking leave can be done by saying “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un” which means “We belong to Allah and unto Him shall we return” as this phrase expresses our faith in Allah's power over all things.
