Taking Care of Animals While in Ihram

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab was seen taking ticks off a camel while in ihram, which Malik disapproved of.

Yahya related to me from Yahya ibn Said from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn alHarith at-Taymi from Rabia ibn Abi Abdullah ibn alHudayr that he saw Umar ibn al-Khattab taking the ticks off a camel of his at as- Suqya while he was in ihram . Malik said that he disapproved of that.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect and kindness towards animals at all times.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of taking care of animals even when one is on pilgrimage. Umar ibn al-Khattab was seen taking ticks off a camel while he was in ihram, which is the state that pilgrims enter into before they begin their pilgrimage. However, Malik disapproved of this action as it goes against the rules and regulations set for those who are in ihram. This hadith teaches us to be mindful and respectful towards animals even when we are on a spiritual journey or any other kind of journey for that matter. We should always remember to take care and show kindness towards all living creatures no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
