The Importance of Saying Talbiya on Arafa Day

SUMMARY: Umar ibn Abd alAziz heard people loudly saying takbir and sent the guard to remind them to say talbiya instead.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Yahya ibn Said, that Umar ibn Abd alAziz was once going from Mina (to Arafa) on the day of Arafa and heard the takbir being said loudly, so he sent the guard to shout out to the people, "O people, you should be saying the talbiya".

QUICK LESSONS:
Say Talbiya when performing Hajj or Umrah with sincerity and humility

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of saying talbiya on the day of Arafa. Umar ibn Abd alAziz was once going from Mina to Arafa and heard people loudly shouting takbir, so he sent a guard to remind them that they should be saying talbiya instead. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that we should say labbayk Allahumma labbayk which means “Here I am at Your service O Lord” when performing Hajj or Umrah. This hadith reminds us that it is important for us to remember our purpose in performing Hajj or Umrah and not get distracted by other things such as shouting takbirs too loudly. We must remember our purpose in life which is worshipping Allah ï·» and fulfilling His commands with sincerity and humility.
