This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to wash his head when he was in ihram. It was related by Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from Ibrahim ibn Abdullah ibn Hunayn from his father Abdullah ibn Hunayn that Abdullah ibn Abbas and al-Miswar ibn Makhrama once had a disagreement at al-Abwa. Abdullah said that someone in ihram could wash their head, and al Miswar ibn Makhrama maintained that someone in ihram could not wash their head. To settle this dispute, Abdullah Ibn Abbas sent Ibn Hunayn to Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari who was doing ghusl between the posts of a well, screened by a garment. When asked how the Messenger of Allah used to wash his head while in ihram, Abu Ayyub pulled down the garment so Ibn Hunayn could see his head and then instructed for water to be poured over it before passing his hands over it twice - front to back then front again - saying he saw the Messenger of Allah do it like this too. This hadith teaches us that although we are restricted during our time of pilgrimage or Hajj due to being in an Ihraam state, we can still perform certain acts such as washing our heads if needed as long as we follow what has been taught by our beloved prophet Muhammad PBUH himself.
