The Reward of Fasting

SUMMARY: Fasting is a special act of worship that is rewarded by Allah and has a better smell than musk.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "By the One in Whose hand my self is, the smell of the breath of a man fasting is better with Allah than the scent of musk'. He leaves his desires and his food and drink for My sake. Fasting is for Me and I reward it. Every good action is rewarded by ten times its kind, up to seven hundred times, except fasting, which is for Me, and I reward it'. "

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of fasting in Islam. It explains that fasting is an act of worship that pleases Allah and it has a better smell than musk. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “By the One in Whose hand my self is, the smell of the breath of a man fasting is better with Allah than the scent of musk.' He leaves his desires and his food and drink for My sake.” This means that when someone fasts they are leaving their desires behind for Allah's sake which makes them even more beloved to Him. Furthermore, it was mentioned in this hadith that “Fasting is for Me and I reward it” meaning that when someone fasts they will be rewarded by Allah for their efforts. Lastly, it was also mentioned in this hadith “Every good action is rewarded by ten times its kind up to seven hundred times except fasting which is for Me and I reward it” meaning that every good deed done will be multiplied up to seven hundred times but fasting will be specially rewarded by Allah Himself without any multiplication or increase.
