Paying Zakat on Property

SUMMARY: Zakat does not have to be paid on property until a year has elapsed over it.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar used to say, "Zakat does not have to be paid on property until a year has elapsed over it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pay zakat according to Islamic law after a full year has passed since acquiring an item.
EXPLANATIONS:
According to the hadith, Muslims are not obligated to pay zakat on their property until a full year has passed since they acquired it. This means that if someone buys something and then sells it within the same year, they do not need to pay zakat for that item. However, if someone owns an item for more than one year, then they must pay zakat for that item according to Islamic law. The hadith also teaches us about the importance of being mindful of our possessions and taking responsibility for them in accordance with Islamic teachings.
