No Zakat on Small Amounts

SUMMARY: There is no zakat to be paid on less than five camels, two hundred dirhams of pure silver, or three hundred sa.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Amr ibn Yahya al-Mazini that his father said that he had heard Abu Said al-Khudri say that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "There is no zakat on less than five camels, there is no zakat on less than five awaq (two hundred Dirhams of pure silver) and there is no zakat on less than five awsuq (three hundred sa)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity according to your means .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that there is no obligation to pay zakat on small amounts of wealth. Zakat is a form of charity in Islam and it is obligatory for Muslims to give a certain percentage of their wealth each year. However, this hadith tells us that if someone has less than five camels or two hundred dirhams of pure silver or three hundred sa then they do not have to pay zakat. This shows us that Allah ï·» does not burden people with more than they can bear and He understands our limitations. It also encourages us to be generous with our wealth even when we don’t have much because even small acts can make a difference in the lives of others.
