Respect for Funeral Processions

SUMMARY: Hisham ibn Urwa's father was always seen in front of a funeral procession and would wait until it passed him before going to al-Baqi.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Hisham ibn Urwa said, "I only ever saw my father in front of a funeral procession". He added, "Then he would come to al-Baqi and sit down until the procession passed him".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about showing respect for funeral processions. It tells us that Hisham ibn Urwa's father was always seen in front of a funeral procession and would wait until it passed him before going to al-Baqi. This shows us the importance of respecting those who have passed away by waiting until the procession has gone past before continuing with our own activities. We should also remember that we should not be too loud or disrespectful when near a funeral procession as this can be very hurtful to those mourning the loss of their loved one. We should also remember that we are all equal in death and so no matter what our social status is, we should show respect for all funerals equally.
