Walking in Front of a Bier

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr, Umar and the Khalifas after them all walked in front of the bier.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and Abu Bakr and Umar as well as the khalifas up until this time and Abdullah ibn Umar, would walk in front of the bier.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect for those who have passed away by walking in front of their bier during funeral processions.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of respect and honouring those who have passed away. It is narrated that Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Umar as well as the khalifas after them would walk in front of a bier during a funeral procession. This was done to show respect for the deceased person and to honour their memory. It is also an example for us to follow when attending funerals today - we should always remember to show respect for those who have passed away by walking in front of their bier during funeral processions.
