Seeking Refuge in Allah

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge in Allah from the torment of Hell, the trial of Dajjal and the trials of life and death.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'zZubayr al-Makki from Tawus al-Yamani from Abdullah ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to teach this dua in the same way that he would teach them a sura of the Qur'an, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Jahannam, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death". Allahumma inniy audhu bika min adhabi jahannama, wa audhu bika min adhabi'l-qabri, wa audhu bika min fitnati'l-mahya wa mamati.

This hadith is about seeking refuge in Allah from various trials and tribulations that we may face throughout our lives. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a dua to recite when we are faced with difficult situations such as the torment of Hellfire, the trial of Dajjal or even just life and death itself. By reciting this dua we can ask for protection from these things so that we can be safe and secure in our faith. We should remember to recite this dua often so that we can be protected from any harm or danger that may come our way.
