Abiding Good Deeds

SUMMARY: The hadith emphasizes the importance of saying certain phrases to show one's devotion to Allah.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Umara ibn Sayyad had heard Said ibn al Musayyab say about abiding good deeds that they were a slave's saying 'Allah is greater' (Allahu akbar) and 'Glory be to Allah' (Subahana'llah) and 'Praise be to Allah' (al-hamdu lillah) and 'There is no god but Allah and there is no power and no strength except by Allah'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of expressing one's devotion to Allah through words and phrases. It is said that a slave's abiding good deeds are saying 'Allah is greater' ('Allahu akbar' - الله أكبر ), 'Glory be to Allah' ('Subahana'llah' - سبحان الله ), 'Praise be to Allah' ('al-hamdu lillah'- الحمد لله ) and 'There is no god but Allah and there is no power and no strength except by Allah.' These phrases are used as a way of showing one's love for God and His greatness. They can also be used as a reminder for oneself that all power comes from God alone. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember our faith in God through these words, even if we are slaves or not.
