(Book 14, Hadith 6) #35512
Changing Direction of Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how the people were instructed to change their direction of prayer from ash-Sham to the Kaba.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Dinar that Abdullah ibn Umar said, "On one occasion when the people were praying subhat Quba a man came to them and said, 'A piece of Qur'an was sent down to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, last night, and he was ordered to face the Kaba, so face it'. They had been facing ash-Sham, so they turned round and faced the Kaba'.'

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow commands of Allah without hesitation or doubt . Be open minded . Accept new instructions if they come from Allah .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a time when the people were praying subhat Quba and a man came and told them that they should face the Ka’bah instead of ash-Sham. Subhat Quba is a type of supplication or prayer which was practiced by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions during their journey towards Madinah. The man who came was sent by Allah with instructions for them to change their direction of prayer from ash-Sham to the Ka’bah in Makkah. This shows us how important it is for Muslims to follow Allah's commands without hesitation or doubt, even if it means changing something we have been doing for a long time. It also teaches us that we should always be open minded and willing to accept new instructions if they come from Allah, as He knows best what will benefit us in this life and in the hereafter.
