(Book 9, Hadith 79) #35460
Greeting During Prayer

SUMMARY: When someone greets you while you are praying, do not reply but give a signal with your hand.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar passed by a man who was praying and said, "Peace be upon you," and the man replied to him. Abdullah ibn Umar returned to him and said, "When someone says, 'Peace be upon you' to you while you are praying do not reply, but give a signal with your hand".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give a signal with your hand when greeted during prayer

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we are in the middle of prayer, it is important to remain focused on our worship and not be distracted by external conversations or greetings. Instead of replying to the greeting verbally, we should give a signal with our hand as a sign of acknowledgement. This hadith also emphasizes the importance of prayer in Islam and how it should be respected as an act of worship. It is important for Muslims to remember that prayer is an opportunity for us to connect with Allah and therefore should not be taken lightly or interrupted by other activities.
