Prostrating in Sickness

SUMMARY: When a person is too sick to prostrate, they should motion with their head instead of raising anything to their forehead.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar used to say, "When a sick man is unable to prostrate he should motion with his head, and not raise anything to his forehead".

TOPICS
prostration  *  sickness  *  motion

QUICK LESSONS:
Motion with your head when you cannot prostrate due to sickness
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when a person is too sick to perform the physical act of prostrating during prayer, they should instead motion with their head. This shows us that even if we are unable to do something physically due to sickness or any other reason, we can still show our devotion and commitment through other means. It also teaches us the importance of being mindful and respectful even when we are not able to do something physically. We can still show our respect and devotion through other means such as motions or gestures.
