Joining Prayers in Congregation

SUMMARY: Zayd ibn Thabit entered the mosque and joined the people in prayer by slowly moving forward until he reached the row.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Abu Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf said, "Zayd ibn Thabit entered the mosque and found the people in ruku, so he went into ruku and then moved slowly forward until he reached the row".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about joining prayers in congregation. It tells us that when Zayd ibn Thabit entered the mosque and saw people praying in ruku he also joined them by slowly moving forward until he reached his row. This teaches us that it is important to join prayers with other Muslims as a congregation and not pray alone. It also shows us that we should be respectful of others while joining a prayer as we should not rush or push our way into it but rather move slowly so as to not disturb anyone else's prayer.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “Prayer offered in congregation is twenty-seven times more superior than prayer offered alone” [Sahih Muslim]. This hadith emphasizes how important it is for Muslims to join their prayers together as a community and how much reward they can get from doing so. By joining together for prayer we are reminded of our unity and brotherhood which helps strengthen our faith and connection with Allah SWT.
