Praying in One Garment

SUMMARY: It is permissible to pray in one garment, and Abu Hurayra himself did so.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Said ibn al- Musayyab said that Abu Hurayra was asked, "May a man pray in one garment?" He said, "Yes". The man then said to him "Do you do that?" and he replied, "Yes, I pray in one garment while my clothes are on the clothes-rack".

QUICK LESSONS:
Praying with just one piece of clothing is permissible

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the permissibility of praying in one garment. It was narrated by Yahya from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Said ibn al-Musayyab said that Abu Hurayra was asked if a man can pray in one garment and he replied yes. He then went on to say that he himself does this as well - praying with only one garment while his clothes are on the clothes-rack. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to pray with just one piece of clothing and it also shows us the example set by Abu Hurayra who practiced what he preached. We should strive to follow his example and be consistent with our faith practices.
