The Importance of Subh Prayer

SUMMARY: The middle prayer is the most important prayer of the day.

Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that AIi ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas used to say, "The middle prayer is the prayer of subh". Malik said, "Out of all that I have heard about the matter, I prefer what Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas said".
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، وَعَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، كَانَا يَقُولاَنِ الصَّلاَةُ الْوُسْطَى صَلاَةُ الصُّبْحِ ‏.‏ قَالَ مَالِكٌ وَقَوْلُ عَلِيٍّ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَحَبُّ مَا سَمِعْتُ إِلَىَّ فِي ذَلِكَ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of salat or prayer in Islam. It is narrated by Yahya and Malik that Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas said that the middle prayer or salat al-wusta is the most important one. This means that it should be given priority over other prayers as it has a special significance in Islam. It is also mentioned that out of all what Malik heard about this matter, he preferred what Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Abbas said which shows how highly they valued this particular prayer. Thus, this hadith emphasizes on giving importance to salat al-wusta as it has a special place in Islam.
