EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that it is permissible to pray voluntary prayers while sitting. This was the practice of some of the companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ such as Urwa ibn az-Zubayr and Said ibn al-Musayyab. It is important to note that this does not apply to obligatory prayers which must be performed standing up. The hadith also teaches us that we should follow the example set by the companions in matters related to religious practices as they were closest in time and understanding with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
