Prayer of Witr

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prayer of witr and how it should be done.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Sad ibn Abi Waqqas used to pray witr after isha with one raka. Malik said, "This is not the situation with us. Rather three is the minimum for witr".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Prophet Muhammad's teachings in religious matters and pray witr with at least three rakas.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith talks about the prayer of witr which is a special prayer that Muslims perform after Isha. It is usually performed with three rakas but according to this hadith Sad ibn Abi Waqqas used to pray it with one raka. However Malik said that three was the minimum for witr and this is what Muslims follow today. This hadith teaches us that we should always follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and not just rely on our own opinions or ideas when it comes to religious matters.
