The Night Prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray 13 rakahs in the night and then 2 rakahs when he heard the adhan for the subh prayer.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that A'isha, umm al-muminin said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to pray thirteen rakahs in the night and then would pray two rakahs when he heard the adhan for the subh prayer".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the night prayer of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It is narrated by A'isha, umm al-muminin that he used to pray thirteen rakahs in the night and then two rakahs when he heard the adhan for subh prayer. Salah or prayer is one of the five pillars of Islam and it is obligatory on every Muslim to perform it five times a day at specific times. Each salah consists of a certain number of raka’at which are units or cycles of standing, bowing down and prostrating during salah. Adhan or call to prayer is made before each salah time so that people can come together for congregational prayers in mosques. This hadith teaches us that we should offer our prayers regularly with full concentration and devotion as taught by our beloved prophet Muhammad PBUH who himself was an example for us in this regard.
