QUICK LESSONS:
Pray voluntary prayers at night in Ramadan
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of prayer during the holy month of Ramadan. It is narrated by Yahya and Malik from Yazid ibn Ruman that during the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab, people used to watch the night in prayer for twenty-three rakahs. A rakah is a unit of prayer which consists of standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting down while reciting verses from Quran. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “The best prayer after obligatory prayers is praying at night” [Sahih Muslim]. Therefore, it is important for Muslims to make an effort to pray as many voluntary prayers as possible during this blessed month.
