Exchange of Garments

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) exchanged a fine striped garment from Syria for a plain, rough garment because he noticed the stripes in his prayer.

Malik related to me from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wore a fine striped garment f rom Syria, and then gave it to Abu Jahm and took a plain, rough, garment in return. Abu Jahm asked, "Messenger of Allah! Why?" He said, "I looked at its stripes in the prayer".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your clothing while praying , Strive to be humble in all aspects of life by exchanging luxurious items for simpler ones if needed .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the exchange of garments between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Abu Jahm. The Prophet ﷺ was wearing a fine striped garment from Syria when he noticed its stripes during his prayer. He then exchanged it with Abu Jahm for a plain, rough garment instead. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our clothing while praying as it can be distracting to our concentration on God's words. We should also strive to be humble in all aspects of life by exchanging luxurious items for simpler ones if needed.

The Prophet ﷺ was an example to us all in how we should live our lives; with humility and mindfulness towards God's words at all times. He showed us that even something as small as clothing can have an effect on our spiritual connection with God during prayer time so we must always remain aware and conscious of what we wear when engaging in religious activities such as prayers or reciting Quran verses etc..
