Praying an Extra Rakah and Two Sajdas

SUMMARY: When someone is uncertain about how many rakahs they have prayed, they should pray one more and then do two sajdas from the sitting position.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Afif ibn Amr as-Sahmi that Ata ibn Yasar said, "I asked Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As and Kab al Ahbar about someone who was uncertain in his prayer, and did not know whether he had prayed three or four rakahs. Both of them said, 'He should pray another raka and then do two sajdas from the sitting position'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful during your prayers so you can be sure you are completing them correctly according to Islamic teachings.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains what to do when someone is uncertain about how many rakahs they have prayed in their prayer. The hadith states that if a person does not know whether they have prayed three or four rakahs in their prayer then they should pray one more raka and then do two sajdas from the sitting position. This means that even if a person is unsure of how many rakahs they have already prayed, it is important for them to still complete their prayer properly by praying an extra raka and doing two sajdas afterwards. This hadith teaches us the importance of being mindful during our prayers so that we can be sure we are completing them correctly according to Islamic teachings.
