(Book 3, Hadith 53) #35254
Sitting Back During Prayer Due to Illness

SUMMARY: Abdullah ibn Umar was seen sitting back from the two sajdas of the prayer onto the top of his feet. He explained that it was not a sunna of the prayer, but he did it because he was ill.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Sadaqa ibn Yasar that al- Mughira ibn Hakim saw Abdullah ibn Umar sit back from the two sajdas of the prayer onto the top of his feet. When he had finished, al- Mughira mentioned it to him, and Abdullah ibn Umar explained, "It is not a sunna of the prayer. I do it because I am ill".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how one should perform their prayers when they are ill. It is narrated by Yahya from Malik from Sadaqa ibn Yasar that al- Mughira ibn Hakim saw Abdullah Ibn Umar sit back from the two prostrations of his prayer onto the top of his feet. When he had finished praying, al- Mughira mentioned it to him and Abdullah Ibn Umar explained that it was not a sunna or tradition of prayer but rather something he did because he was ill at that time. This hadith teaches us to be mindful and considerate when we are performing our prayers while being sick or unwell in any way as we should take into account our physical limitations and adjust accordingly so as not to strain ourselves too much during worshiping Allah SWT.
