The Significance of Saying "Allah is Greater" in Prayer

SUMMARY: Jabir ibn Abdullah taught people to say "Allah is greater" when they bowed or prostrated in prayer.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Nuaym Wahb ibn Kaysan that Jabir ibn Abdullah used to teach them the takbir in the prayer. Abu Nuaym said, "He used to tell us to say 'Allah is greater' whenever we lowered or raised ourselves".
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ، وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمُ التَّكْبِيرَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَكَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نُكَبِّرَ كُلَّمَا خَفَضْنَا وَرَفَعْنَا

This hadith speaks about the importance of saying “Allah is Greater” during prayer. It was narrated by Yahya from Malik from Abu Nuaym Wahb ibn Kaysan that Jabir ibn Abdullah used to teach people the takbir in prayer. According to this hadith, whenever one lowers or raises themselves during prayer they should recite “Allah is Greater” as a sign of respect and reverence for Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember Allah and show our gratitude towards Him even during our prayers. We should also be mindful of our actions and words while praying so that we can receive the full blessings from Allah.
