(Book 3, Hadith 17) #35218
Raising Hands During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to raise his hands to the level of his shoulders when he began the prayer and when he raised his head from the ruku, saying "Allah hears whoever praises him, our Lord and praise belongs to You". He did not raise them in the sujud.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to raise his hands to the level of his shoulders when he began the prayer and when he raised his head from the ruku he raised them in the same way, saying, "Allah hears whoever praises him, our Lord and praise belongs to You". He did not raise them in the sujud.

QUICK LESSONS:
Raise your hands up to shoulder level when beginning a prayer and after raising your head up from ruku while saying “Allah hears whoever praises him; our Lord and praise belongs to You” .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Yahya from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah from Abdullah ibn Umar states that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to raise his hands up to shoulder level when beginning a prayer and after raising his head up from ruku. He would say “Allah hears whoever praises him; our Lord and praise belongs to You” while doing so. However, he did not do this during sujud. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of how we pray and make sure that we are following all of the rules set out by Allah SWT in order for our prayers to be accepted. We should also remember that praising Allah is an important part of prayer as it shows humility towards Him. Furthermore, this hadith also reminds us that even though Prophet Muhammad was a great leader who was followed by many people around the world; he still followed all of Allah’s commands without any hesitation or doubt which is something we should strive for as well.
