The Importance of Tooth-Sticking in Wudu

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wanted to encourage his followers to use a tooth-stick with each wudu, but he refrained from doing so as it would have been too difficult for them.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Humayd ibn Abdar-Rahman ibn Awf that Abu Hurayra said, "Were it not that he would be overburdening his community he (the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,) would have ordered them to use a tooth-stick with each wudu".

Use a tooth stick after every wudhu for better oral health care.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in Islam. It was narrated by Yahya from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Humayd ibn Abdar-Rahman ibn Awf that Abu Hurayra said that the Prophet Muhammad wanted to encourage his followers to use a tooth stick with each wudu but he refrained from doing so as it would have been too difficult for them. This hadith teaches us the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in our daily lives and how we should strive to maintain good oral health through regular brushing or using a tooth stick after every wudu. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about moderation; even though the Prophet wanted his followers to practice good oral hygiene habits, he was mindful of their limitations and did not impose an overly burdensome requirement on them.
