Ghusl and Wudu for Women with Bleeding

SUMMARY: A woman who is bleeding should do ghusl and wudu for every prayer, and if the bleeding overtakes her she should bind her private parts.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Sumayyah, the mawla of Abu Bakr ibn Abd ar-Rahman that al-Qaqa ibn Hakim and Zayd ibn Aslam sent him to Said ibn al-Musayyab to ask how a woman who was bleeding as if menstruating should do ghusl. Said said, "She does a ghusl to cover from the end of one period to the end of the next, and does wudu for every prayer, and if bleeding overtakes her she should bind her private parts".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform gusul from one period to another , Bind your private parts when you experience heavy menstrual flow .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how a woman who is bleeding should perform ghusl and wudu. Ghusl is a full body ritual washing which must be done in order to become ritually pure after certain activities such as sexual intercourse or menstruation. Wudu is a ritual washing of certain parts of the body before prayer or other religious activities. The hadith states that if a woman is bleeding as if she were menstruating, then she should do ghusl from one period to the next, meaning that she must perform ghusl at least once per month when her period ends. Additionally, it states that even if there are times when the bleeding overtakes her during this time frame, then she should bind her private parts until it stops so as not to invalidate her state of purity while performing wudu for each prayer.
