Sahih al-Bukhari 3683 (Book 62, Hadith 33) #3516
Fear Allah more than People

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how the women were scared of Umar's sternness and how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised him to be kinder.

Narrated Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas: 'Umar bin Al-Khattab asked the permission of Allah's Messenger to see him while some Quraishi women were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him for more expenses, raising their voices above the voice of Allah's Messenger . When 'Umar asked for the permission to enter, the women quickly put on their veils. Allah'sf Apostle allowed him to enter and 'Umar came in while Allah's Messenger was smiling, 'Umar said "O Allah's Apostle! May Allah always keep you smiling". The Prophet said, "These women who have been here, roused my wonder, for as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly put on their veils"'.Umar said, "O Allah's Messenger ! You have more right to be feared by them than I". Then 'Umar addressed the women saying, "O enemies of yourselves! You fear me more than you do Allah's Messenger ?" They said, "Yes, for you are harsher and sterner than Allah's Messenger ". Then Allah's Messenger said, "O Ibn Al-Khattab! By Him in Whose Hands my life is! Never does Satan find you going on a way, but he takes another way other than yours".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others regardless of their gender or social status

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting people and being kind to them. It was narrated by Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, who said that Umar bin Al-Khattab asked for permission to enter while some Quraishi women were talking with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When they heard Umar's voice, they quickly put on their veils. Umar then asked why they feared him more than the Prophet, and the women replied that he was harsher and sterner than the Prophet. The Prophet then said that Satan will never find you going on a way but he takes another way other than yours. This hadith teaches us that we should fear Allah more than people because He is All-Knowing and All-Seeing, whereas people are not perfect or infallible like Him. We should also respect others regardless of their gender or social status, as this will bring us closer to Allah's mercy and blessings in this life and in the hereafter.
