(Book 2, Hadith 58) #35143
Perseverance in Prayer

SUMMARY: A man asked Said ibn al-Musayyab if he should leave his prayer if he finds a liquid during it, to which Said ibn al-Musayyab replied that even if the liquid were to flow on his leg, he would not leave until the prayer was finished.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that he was listening to Said ibn al-Musayyab and a man questioned him saying, "I discover a liquid when I am praying. Should I leave?" Said ibn al-Musayyab said to him, "Even if it were to flow on my leg I would not leave until I had finished the prayer".

QUICK LESSONS:
Persevere in your prayers no matter what comes your way

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of persevering in prayer despite any obstacles or difficulties that may arise. It is narrated by Yahya ibn Said and Malik, who heard it from Said ibn al-Musayyab. In this hadith, a man asked whether he should leave his prayer if he finds a liquid during it. To this question, Said ibn al-Musayyab replied that even if the liquid were to flow on his leg, he would not leave until the prayer was finished. This shows us how important it is for Muslims to persevere in their prayers no matter what happens or how difficult it may be for them. The lesson here is that we must remain steadfast and committed to our prayers no matter what comes our way and strive to complete them with sincerity and dedication.
