Purification Through Cleanliness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if a person walks in dirty places, the clean places they walk afterwards will purify them.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Muhammad ibn Umara from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim that the mother of the son of Ibrahim ibn Abd ar- Rahman ibn Awf questioned Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, "I am a woman who wears a long skirt and (sometimes) I walk in dirty places". Umm Salama replied, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'What follows (ie clean places) purifies it'. "

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of cleanliness and how it can be used to purify oneself. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if a person walks in dirty places, the clean places they walk afterwards will purify them. This means that even if one has been exposed to dirt or impurity, they can still become purified by engaging in activities which are considered pure and holy. This hadith also teaches us to be mindful of our environment and take care not to expose ourselves unnecessarily to dirt or impurity. We should strive for purity both inside and out by engaging in activities which are considered pure and holy such as prayer or charity work.
