Sahih al-Bukhari 3676 (Book 62, Hadith 26) #3509
The Strength of Umar ibn Al-Khattab

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the strength and hard work of Umar ibn Al-Khattab, as compared to Abu Bakr.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Messenger said".While (in a dream), I was standing by a well, drawing water from it. Abu Bakr and 'Umar came to me. Abu Bakr took the bucket (from me) and drew one or two buckets of water, and there was some weakness in his drawing. May Allah forgive him. Then Ibn Al-Khattab took the bucket from Abu Bakr, and the bucket turned into a very large one in his hands. I had never seen such a mighty person amongst the people as him in performing such hard work. He drew so much water that the people drank to their satisfaction and watered their camels". (Wahab, a sub-narrator said, "till their camels drank and knelt down")

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for excellence in whatever you do for Allah's sake .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the strength and hard work of Umar ibn Al-Khattab, as compared to Abu Bakr. In a dream, Prophet Muhammad saw himself standing by a well drawing water from it. When Abu Bakr came to help him, he was able to draw one or two buckets of water but with some difficulty. However when Umar came and took the bucket from him, it became much larger in his hands and he was able to draw so much water that everyone was satisfied and even their camels were able to drink until they knelt down. This shows us how strong and hardworking Umar was compared to others around him. It also teaches us that we should strive for excellence in whatever we do no matter how difficult it may be because Allah rewards those who put in effort for His sake.
