Musnad Ahmad 1429 (Book 7, Hadith 24) #35050
The Virtue of Self-Reliance

SUMMARY: It is better to work hard and be independent than to rely on others for help.

Hisham bin 'Urwah narrated from his father, that his grandfather Ibn Numair said that az-Zubair (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah said: "For one of you to take a rope and go to the mountains, then bring a bundle of firewood on his back and sell it, and make himself independent of means thereby, is better for him than to ask of people, whether they give him something or not".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of self-reliance and hard work. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encourages us to take initiative and strive for independence rather than relying on others for help. He advises us to take a rope and go into the mountains in order to collect firewood which can then be sold in order to make a living. This hadith teaches us that it is better to work hard and be independent than it is to ask people for help or money as they may not always give it willingly or at all. We should strive towards self-sufficiency so that we are not dependent on anyone else’s assistance or charity in order to survive.
