Kindness of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showing kindness and appreciation to Abdullah bin az-Zubair's father by mentioning both his parents together.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin az-Zubair said: On the day of al-Khandaq, 'Umar bin Abi Salamah and I were in the fort where the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were, the fort of Hassan. He would lift me up and I would lift him up. When he lifted me up, I saw my father go past on his way to Qurayza, as he was fighting alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of al-Khandaq. He said: "Who will go to Banu Qurayza and fight them?" I said to him when he came back: "O my father, I recognized you when you were going to Banu Qurayza". He said: "O my son, by Allah, the Messenger of Allahﷺ mentioned both his parents together for me when he said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you'.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، أَنْبَأَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْخَنْدَقِ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَعُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فِي الْأُطُمِ الَّذِي فِيهِ نِسَاءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُطُمِ حَسَّانَ فَكَانَ يَرْفَعُنِي وَأَرْفَعُهُ فَإِذَا رَفَعَنِي عَرَفْتُ أَبِي حِينَ يَمُرُّ إِلَى بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ وَكَانَ يُقَاتِلُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ فَقَالَ مَنْ يَأْتِي بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ فَيُقَاتِلَهُمْ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ حِينَ رَجَعَ يَا أَبَتِ تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَعْرِفُكَ حِينَ تَمُرُّ ذَاهِبًا إِلَى بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيَجْمَعُ لِي أَبَوَيْهِ جَمِيعًا يُفَدِّينِي بِهِمَا يَقُولُ فِدَاكَ أَبِي وَأُمِّي‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the immense kindness and appreciation that the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) showed to Abdullah bin az-Zubair's father. On the day of al-Khandaq, when Abdullah was in a fort with his father and other wives of the Messenger of Allah(PBUH). His father went out to fight alongside him on Banu Qurayza. When he returned, Abdullah recognized him and told him about it. His father was surprised as he did not expect his son to recognize him in such a situation. To show his appreciation for this recognition, The Messenger of Allah(PBUH) mentioned both his parents together saying "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you." This shows us how much respect and love The Messenger of Allah(PBUH) had for those who were loyal to Him even in difficult times like war. It also teaches us that we should always appreciate those who are loyal to us no matter what situation we are in or how difficult it may be.
