Musnad Ahmad 1395 (Book 6, Hadith 14) #35018
The Benefits of Pollination

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) passed by some people who were pollinating palm trees and he thought it was of no use. He later clarified that if it would benefit them, then they should do it and not to blame him for his passing thoughts.

It was narrated from Moosa bin Talhah that his father said: The Messenger of Allah passed by some people who were at the top of the palm trees. He said: 'What are these people doing?' They said: "They are pollinating (the trees), putting the male with the female". He said: 'I do not think this can help in any way". They were told about that and they stopped doing it. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah and he said: "If it will benefit them, then let them do it. It was only a passing thought. Do not blame me for a mere thought, but if I tell you anything about Allah (may He be glorified and exalted) then accept it from me, for I will never tell a lie about Allah'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of pollinating palm trees. It was narrated from Moosa bin Talhah that his father said that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed by some people who were at the top of the palm trees and asked what they were doing. They told him they were pollinating, putting male with female, but he thought this would not help in any way. However, when news reached him that this could be beneficial to them, he said if it will benefit them then let them do it as his initial thought was only a passing one and not to blame him for a mere thought but accept whatever he says about Allah as he will never tell a lie about Him. This hadith teaches us to think before we speak or act as our words can have an impact on others even if we don't mean any harm or ill intent behind them. We should also be careful in our actions so as not to cause any harm or damage even unintentionally and always seek knowledge before making decisions or judgments on matters we are unfamiliar with.
