Musnad Ahmad 1392 (Book 6, Hadith 12) #35016
Eating Gifts in Ihram

SUMMARY: Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah was given a bird as a gift while he was sleeping. Some of the people with him ate it, and when he woke up, he approved of their actions and said that they had eaten it with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

It was narrated from Mu'adh bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Uthman at-Taimi that his father said: We were with Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah and we were in ihram. A bird was given to him as a gift when Talhah was sleeping. Some of us ate and some of us refrained. When Talhah woke up, he approved of those who had eaten and said: "We ate it with the Messenger of Allah ".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous and forgiving even if someone does something without your permission or knowledge.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about eating gifts while in ihram. Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah was given a bird as a gift while he was sleeping. Some of the people with him ate it, and when he woke up, instead of getting angry or scolding them for eating without his permission, he approved of their actions and said that they had eaten it with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This teaches us to be generous and forgiving even if someone does something without our permission or knowledge. We should not get angry but rather show kindness by approving their actions instead. It also teaches us to be mindful when we are in ihram so that we do not break any rules unknowingly or unintentionally.
