This hadith explains the ritual ablution or wudoo that was practiced by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated that 'Abd Khair came to visit 'Ali ibn Abi Talib and saw that he had just prayed. He then called for water for wudoo, which surprised those present as they thought he had already prayed. However, it was clear that he wanted to demonstrate how one should perform wudoo according to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah. He took a small vessel and poured water over his hands three times before rinsing his mouth and nose three times from this same handful of water. Then he washed his face three times, followed by washing each arm three times before wiping his head once with a handful of water from the vessel. Finally, he washed each foot three times before declaring that whoever would like to learn how to perform wuduo according to what was taught by Messenger of Allah should follow this method.
