The Consequences of Lying About the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against lying about him, as it will lead to Hell.

It was narrated from Ribi bin Hirash that he heard 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) deliver a khutbah, saying: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Do not tell lies about me, for the one who tells lies about me will enter Hell'.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لَا تَكْذِبُوا عَلَيَّ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يَكْذِبْ عَلَيَّ يَلِجْ النَّارَ‏.‏
