EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the voluntary prayer of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It was narrated by 'Asim bin Damrah that he and his companions went to Ali bin Abi Talib and asked why he did not tell them about the voluntary prayer of the Messenger of Allah. He asked who among them could do it, and they said they would take what they can do. He then said that the Messenger of Allah used to pray sixteen rak'ahs during the day apart from his prescribed prayers. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to emulate our beloved prophet in all aspects, including in our prayers. We should also remember that even though we may not be able to perform as many voluntary prayers as our beloved prophet did, we should still strive to perform as many as possible with sincerity and devotion for Allah's sake alone.
