EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prayer of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It was narrated by Asim bin Damrah that Ali was asked about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah and he said that he used to pray sixteen rak'ahs at night. A rak’ah is a unit in salat or Islamic ritual prayer and it consists of a set number of units including standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting in between two prostrations. Muslims are required to perform five daily prayers throughout their day and one additional prayer at night known as tahajjud or qiyam al-layl which consists of two to eight rak’ahs depending on how much time one has available for it. This hadith shows us that even though our beloved prophet was very busy with his duties as a messenger, he still made sure to take out time for his personal worship and devotion towards Allah Almighty by praying sixteen rak’ahs every night without fail. This teaches us that no matter how busy we get with our lives, we should always make sure to take out some time for ourselves so we can connect with our Creator through worshiping Him alone without any distractions or interruptions from this world around us.
